Artist Statement
"I create “art” furniture combining a whimsical aesthetic sensibility with extensive woodworking experience. Striving for a complicated, rich surface,
I often use the end grains of wood, which is rarely used in exhibit cabinetry.
I carefully choose my wood for grain pattern and strive for interesting variations and color. In shaping the wood I enjoy finding natural surprises. The surfaces are varied in color and grain, each piece a different intricate design.
Among my influences are Gaudi’s fantastic architectural sculptures, Wharton Eshrick’s beautiful woodwork and Isaiah Zagar’s reuse of materials and busy surfaces.
I believe that everyday items should be art to be used and enjoyed.
The newest pieces are an evolving body of work; each piece leads to new ideas and a continuing growth in the work. Some of the new work is pure sculptural."
