Tom Steigerwald: Commentary on his Painting
"The media that I employ are traditional. That is, acrylic on canvas, watercolor on paper, or Masonite panels painted with both brush and airbrush.
I try to express through my paintings the wonder and power of nature. I do not want my approach to be a pedagogical dissection of its parts; nor to continue with the attenuated idealism of landscape painting.
I want the viewer to experience nature with his senses; to feel the warmth of the object, see the undulating form, to hear the crispness of a dried leaf.
By understanding this sensual/tactile experience, we can begin to
appreciate this awesome profundity of that which we call nature."
